Matthew’s television career started at Spitting Image in 1993, after leaving the University of Leeds where he had been studying music. At Spitting Image he worked as the Workshop Manager producing numerous commercials, corporate films and photo shoots, as well as overseeing the running of the workshop during the filming of the main series of Spitting Image.

In 1998 he moved to Lion Television where he worked on a 'live' show called 'Backstage' as an Assistant Producer. 'Backstage' was a programme that went behind the making of major BBC shows, showing the audience what really went on and it wasn't long before it went on the road going behind the scenes of London Fashion Week, the Moscow State Circus, major music & theatre productions as well as other events up and down the country. Finally the programme finished with 5 shows from Spain. Matthew spent the last year on the show producing and directing.

In 2000 Matthew moved into drama and films, working as a Location Manager, under his company Film Factory Locations. Some of his well known projects have been 'The Sweeney' with Vertigo Films, 'The Black Sea' with Jude Law at Cowboy Films and 'A Long Way Down' a Nicky Hornby book, starring Pierce Brosnan, Imogen Poots & Aaron Paul. He also worked on the critically acclaimed projects of Phoebe Waller Bridge’s ‘Fleabag’and Michaela Coel’s ‘I May Destroy You’.

In 2023 Matthew worked on The Gold which was shown on the BBC, Criminal Record for Apple TV, which will start being shown in January 2024 and has just finished a production for Disney +.
